The Guam Society of America kicks off its 2017 summer events with our annual Memorial Day Picnic. This year’s picnic will be held at Freedom Park at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland on Saturday, May 27, 2017 from 12:00PM-6:00PM

As in past years, this is a POTLUCK event – please bring a favorite dish, or a dessert, or an appetizer, and ONE (1) – 2-liter bottle of soda or a gallon of water. If you are bringing meats for BBQ, we ask that you arrive with the meats (defrosted, please) by 10:00AM.

This is a BYOB event. Please note that NO GLASS or BOTTLES are allowed at Freedom Park.

Unfortunately, security requirements do not allow for non-military ID card holders to enter without a sponsor – for non-military guests who plan to attend, please provide the following information via email to info@guamsociety.org or to fanihi6@verizon.net: Last and First Name, Date of Birth, Driver’s License/State ID Number and State issued. This is very critical as we must submit a by-name listing of non-military guests with this information for easier access to the military facility

Please RSVP no later than May 21, 2017 for planning purposes. If you have friends or family members who are in the military or are retirees, you’re welcome to have them join you and they can sponsor you into the installation as well. Please do not assume that a Common Access Card (CAC) will allow you entrance into the installation.

Music will be provided by DJ911. There will also be children’s games, a corn hole tournament, dancing, 50/50, raffle prizes, and vendors.

High School / College Graduate Recognition:

The Guam Society will also recognize all 2017 Guam Society member graduates who are graduating from high school or college. Please email the following information to fanihi6@verizon.net no later than Sunday, May 21, 2017:

For 2017 scholarship applicants, this is your last event to work volunteer hours for the Brigida Lizama category – and remember the deadline for 2017 scholarship submission is Monday, May 29, 2017, 11:59PM Eastern Time. If you are new to the area and to the Guam Society, we encourage you to join and be a member of the oldest Guam Club in the United States. If you have not yet renewed your 2017 membership, we encourage you to do so. Please goto: http://guamsociety.org/membership

Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic items such as coolers, chairs, canopies, etc.

Vendors: there is no fee for vendor tables/sales; however, we do ask that you provide a donation from what you’re selling, valued at $20, for the raffle. Please coordinate with one of the POCs above before setting up your vendor site/sales.

FREEDOM PARK Rules: No swimming, no styrofoam or glass/bottle containers, dispose of trash in appropriate containers, tidy up before you leave (less for the volunteers to clean up)

PARKING: Limited parking slots are available near the pavilion. There are other parking slots throughout the park. You can also park on the right side of the road. (DO NOT PARK ON THE LEFT SIDE. KEEP CLEAR FOR EMERGENCY VEHICLES).

There is a playground with slides and other equipment for the kids to enjoy.
