TO CELEBRATE THE 2018 GSA MEMORIAL DAY PICNIC ON SATURDAY, MAY 26, 2018
Please read the following updates and respond as necessary.
1) The picnic will be a “Pot Luck”, similar to previous years. Please bring a favorite dish and/or dessert to share plus one 2-liter bottle of soda. If you are bringing meats for BBQ, please bring the meats by 10:00am. BYOB – but please note that no glass or bottles are allowed at Freedom Park.
2) Please RSVP by May 19, 2018 via email to
secretary@guamsociety.org and info@guamsociety.org. If you plan on attending and do not have access to the base – please provide your Last &First Name, date of birth (DOB), Driver’s License/State ID number and State issued. This information is important as we must provide a list of non-military guests to the Base Security Office. If we don’t hear from you by May 19th, you may not be able to enter the installation for the event. Military ID and Federal Government CAC cards accepted at the gates and do not need to provide DOB, but we still want to know if you’re coming so we can plan accordingly. Thank you for your cooperation.
3) As we’ve done in previous years, the Guam Society will recognize its members/ member students who graduated in December 2017 or will be graduating in 2018.
Please email the following information to
info@guamsociety.org not later than May 12, 2018:
- NAME
- SCHOOL
- SHORT BIOGRAPHY (1 paragraph or less) with accomplishments
- IF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT (indicate what college attending – if applicable)
- IF COLLEGE STUDENT (indicate major/degree)
4) Volunteers are needed so please contact me (Ricco.Pena@gmail.com) if you’d like to help with the event. We will need help in the following areas.
- Parking
- Set Up & Decorations
- Food: manage the food table and a clean up crew
- BBQ Crew: need to be onsite between 7am-8am to get the grills going by 10am (at least 2-4 people)
- Games/Activities (assist Hale Para Agupa)
- At least 2 men (preferably military) that can meet visitors at the gate if needed
Please respond if you can help in any of the areas listed aboveAdditional Information:
ATTENDEES: Bring picnic items such as coolers, chairs, canopies, etc.
VENDORS: No fee for vendors, however, we do ask for a donation of $20 value to be used during the raffle.
PARK RULES: No swimming; no Styrofoam or glass containers; have fun with family and friends; and tidy up before you leave so there’s less for the volunteers to clean up.
VOLUNTEERS: IF YOU ARE APPLYING FOR A GSA SCHOLARSHIP AND NEED VOLUNTEER HOURS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP.

For those who have attended the Annual Roberto LG Lizama Memorial Golf Classic, enter the base at the Virginia Gate.
Directions to Freedom Park, Andrews Air Force Base:
Coming from points west (Rockville, Fairfax County, Northern Virginia area)
Take the 495 Beltway North/East towards the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, Exit at 7A-B, taking right ramp towards MD-5 South towards Waldorf; take Coventry Way Exit Towards Old Alexandria Ferry Road/Andrews AFB; bear left onto Coventry Way, then take right onto Old Alexandria Ferry Road; turn left onto Virginia Avenue (Base Gate/Security hrs 0500-2300). Once you clear the gate, turn right onto South Perimeter Road, then right onto Yorktown Road – go approximately 1/2 mile – arrive at Freedom Park, near Base Lake.
Coming from points south (DC South)
Take 95/495 North into Maryland towards Baltimore, Exit at 7A-B and follow directions above.
Coming from points north
Take 95 /495 South to Richmond, Exit 7A-B and follow directions above.
NOTE: The park is located on the Golf Courses at Joint Base Andrews.
